Very important Acrobat Reader tip for laptop users-change the smoothing!
How many of you use PDF? Good. Okay, how many of you have laptops? Lots I bet. Laptops are out selling desktops now so lots more out there than in the past. Did you know, however, that in Acrobat Reader the default font smoothing is for regular monitors? Yeah and with a lot of people using LCD displays with their desktops this is a bit of a gap.
Don’t fret, though, Acrobat has a switch to adjust the smoothing for CRTs vs LCDs. I didn’t think it would make much of a difference (if any), but I was very wrong. The difference is noticeable and appreciated. If you have a laptop or LCD monitor just go do this now:
1. Go to preferences (Cntrl-K or Cmd-K)
2. Choose “Page Display” under “Categories” on the upper left corner of the dialog
3. For “Rendering” select “For Laptop/LCD Screens” for the “Smooth Text” option
Yep, that simple. Go … go do it now.
